Nice find! If you are prone to wind or heavy rain, I've found that many of these heavily double peonies benefit from support. I usually give them a tall double ring set early on when they are just starting to grow, but at this point if it seems like it will be needed, I'd suggest 3-4 bamboo rods and some string. I won't look as good as if the foliage had grown around it, but better than flowers in the mud. Cut them if severe weather or prolonged rain is predicted so you have a chance to enjoy them.

(I would also trim off the old grass seed heads as low as you can above the current foliage so the growing plant can hide them. In the future cut down just as the foliage is thinking about starting to grow unless you like the look.)

NHBabs: We do get some good storms that come through, I'll look into staking the peonies up. As to the grass heads, they're actually in the neighbor's side of the front garden-ish area, so I can't touch them. But if they were mine, I'd be torn - I like the look of the heads by themselves, but it does look funny to have the dead heads there with fresh green foliage coming up.

Yay! I have a Sarah Bernhardt, but a late frost got to her buds and she didn't flower this year. Nice to see yours.
