Yes, that's exactly what alchemy was. It was a movement of experimenters who used chemicals & fire to change base metals into gold. Also, if I remember correctly, there was a search for a "philosopher's stone".

That's why I asked the question, since the color yellow is associated with gold, and several Senks" names contain the word gold.
