Scion rooting of Maples

Hey, I was wondering. Can a maple scion root if you plant with the graft line below soil? A couple weeks ago I grafted a Sugar Maple cutting on a Silver Maple seedling. Since maples don't root from cuttings very good on their own. I thought I could bury the graft below soil and encourage the scion to form its own roots. Thanks.

That would be the same as planting the maple way too deep and probably won't work.

Actually this has been done.I've seen it done to save a plant that was infected below the graft.I'm not sure how you get the plant to favour putting out more roots higher up but I wouldn't mind betting the Bonsai guys have similar tricks up their sleeves.Might be worth posting on ther Bonsai forum.
