never saw that time lapse before. extremely educational. just read an NPR article called "The Trouble with Earthworms". all about protecting these old-growth forests from Asian and Euro worms which turn the duff to castings. they even had the gall to blame "global warming". Micheal Crichton had an excellent section in his last book "State of Fear" where the main character lambasted some environmental weenies like the one being interviewed by NPR.

The original people in this country (Native Americans) would periodically burn such forests to cinders, on purpose, because there is no good hunting to be had in them. I think the worms are just doing the work the current residents no longer will!

How wonderful! Maybe I will forward the link to our local Kid's Discovery Museum to drop a big hint..... ;)

***CORRECTION: Apparently "Mmydod!" is the word for "Worms." Maybe there's no word for "Wiggle" in Welsh.
