Living Room

This room functions as a living room and will having a dining table also. This is a view from the kitchen looking out. A tv will be above the mantle. I have the Torres rug in 8x 10 for the center and was thinking two sofas and a marble coffee table. A monochromatic color scheme of beige, sand etc. Any suggestions?

normally a tv over the fireplace gives neck cramps, will it fit in one of the 2 cabinets? or on the 4th wall?

color is fine, need more colorful artwork or pillows to come to life.

they do not have your rug in stock, i might have another suitable.

Would you consider 2 swivel chairs in place of one of the sofas? It would break up the symmetry and provide social interaction to the other open areas. Your home is lovely!

I love the idea of two sofas. You have the room to float them facing each other. You could then do two nice streamlined armchairs facing the fireplace. Do you need the two white cabinets beside the fireplace? They look more like armoires for a bedroom or bath for storage. Consider repurposing them? Monochromatic is extremely difficult. Be careful you aren't swimming in a sea of beige. Use many shades of the same color and bring in lots of texture for interest.

I also do not understand the two cabinets near the fireplace. Maybe you can add glass doors or paint them, if you must keep them there.

I think she is saying that she already has the rug.

Would you consider two lower consoles to replace the white cabinets flanking the FP? Then you could mount the TV over one of them and have some awesome art over the mantel.

Agree that the cabinets are awkward. It was the builder who made the choice, not me. Our tv will be above the mantle but on a full motion mount, so it will turn and drop down a bit for ease of viewing.

If you are going to keep the cabinets, then I'd stain/paint them the same color as that brownish piece above the windows. I love your brick wall.

Can you take the doors off the top art of the cabinets and add shelves? I too have sofas facing each other and fireplace it works great. They should be substantial as the material will soften the room.
I would not like a marble coffee table.

Can you show us a picture of where you plan to put the dining table? One of my favorite arrangements is two sofas but it is not really a flexible arrangement. Beautiful room btw.

The dining table may have to be a divider between the kitchen and living space. There isn't a designated dining area given the open floor plan and rooms flowing into one another.

Do you have length from island to FP for this arrangement?

May have to have two love seats instead of sofas.

Our tv is high 53" from the floor, we have no problem with neck pain. However the sofas are not "on top" of the tv. It is easier to see from anywhere in a large room.

If two sofas are two long, I don't know the de ensigns of your space, then I would do one long sofa facing the fireplace and two chairs flanking it. Can your builder open the cabinets up or move them to another room?

One of my favorite living rooms. I think this sofa would work for you as well as other items.

I have considered redooring the top half of both with glass panes to make them more functional and displaying pottery.

Your cabinets will be fine when you get other furniture in there. I think your idea is a good one but I would wait. It is great storage for your room but lighted top cabinets would look great.

I love this room, but it seems to have multiple personality disorder. The whole fireplace wall doesn't really go with the brick wall and rustic lintels, door, and post.

I think it has an industrial vibe but it can be integrated with more traditional aspects.

Do the side cabinets near FP look movable?

    Yes they are
