Looks like a crimson queen to me and they can sustain some leaf burn as well as the stress from transplant. Even if its just pot to ground... dont over water and I just pluck off the badly burned leaves just to keep it pretty. As long as its still pushing new growth it should be just fine.

Did it go from shade to sun? If so, the new growth will be fine as long as you keep it moist.

Actualy mike that was from Daria but i do have a ququeastion of my own.I have an approxamatley 2 year old dragon tear japanese maple if i train the trunk to bend (picture the s-curve of an atlas spruce) will ot harm the tree. How long might it take to obtain a stable shape and should i use wire or is staking ok. It is about 4 ft tall single leader and a natural weeper. I have made the bend against its natural weep direction and then s- curved back toward trunk. Trink is about 1/2 in. Thick.
I like the idea but do NOT want to harm this tree....HELP Please..
