Roots. Figs produce roots any place the stem stays moist over a few days at the correct temperatures.

AFAIK, rooting in water isn't a great idea because of inferior roots. Wet wrap or place in soil/mix is must preferred. Figs are about as easy to root as you can get.

Ah gocha. Well great news that I have roots, I would agree with you that they're inferior because they do scrape right off with no effort at all. Glad I checked in before following the YouTube guy.

Likely changing the water much more frequently and much longer time. Also they likely don't use clear plastic or cover/shade the base so roots grow quicker.

AFAIK, there is no growth difference in fig varieties given the same conditions.
