Is there a problem with your city water? I've never had either refrig water or filter at taps. But then our city is known for its drinking water.

No, the water from the filtered faucet is not as cold as the water from your fridge. Insinkerator sells chiller for the filtered water faucet. This will get you cold water like from the fridge.

We put a charcoal filter system in the garage that supplies filtered and chlorine-free water to only the cold water at the kitchen sink; except we hooked it to the inlet for our refrigerator water too. So I guess the water coming out of the refrigerator is doubly purified and it is cold. It is the best tasting water in the area. Our water is supplied from the Columbia River which means it is very cold and tasty in cold months but starts to taste like a swamp come August. The rest of the house taps get only filtered water.

I installed an Aqua Pure (carbon and filter media) under the kitchen sink. It's about as big as a 1/2 gallon milk bottle. It supplies cold water to the tap, and the refrig. I change it out about every 9 months. Our city water is OK - but there are times we have a lot of chlorine or swampy smell in the autumn.

I can't drink fridge water. It always tastes terrible to me. I have a filtered water cartridge that gives me great-tasting room temperature water. I use that to reuse plastic bottles and I fill rinsed out cognac bottles with filtered water and put those in the fridge. I also use the filtered water for all my cooking, for coffee, soup and everything else. We are on well water now which has a filter coming into the house. So this one is secondary. When we were in the city on city water I put in a filter with ultraviolet to treat the water. Wouldn't use it straight from the tap.
