I re-worded my question.:Because my husband died of cancer at a young age I have become "organic" and haven't used any chemicals, grass seed or fertilizer since he died 20 years ago. I have very little grass on my my lawn and am happy with green weeds.

Over the last few years moss has become visible. I don't like the moss- some of it is lime green which is not desirable looking. There are some tall single blades coming out of the moss which I cannot mow because the lawn mower "sticks" to it.

I have a large yard and started to remove the moss by hand. Some of it was soft and easy and some of it to difficult to remove because it is compacted. I have spent hours reading about moss and it appears that the moss will re-appear if I don't "kill" it all. Everything I read assumes that one has grass which I don;'t; therefore, I am confused as what steps to take to permanently remove the moss. One of the methods to remove the lime would be to use dish detergent and water; but after that I don't ;know what to do.

You sound like my wife. She has nothing good to say about Monsanto, does TaiChi and Yoga and won't eat the boneless/skinless chicken I bring home because it comes from Walmart ..but she hates Moss?!

I'm not so dogmatic in my politics or commerce but I think Moss wonderful. It's not Earth's Melanoma. I'm sure there's some Lawn Chemist that would be happy to exercise your Visa card ..but I wouldn't do it. Jim
