I would suggest a rug that is wider than a runner since a runner will make the hallway feel even narrower. I think the first one is too pink and the second one is too casual and nautical. Given the black door, columns, wood floors are more classic but the console, lamp, and artwork are more modern, I would suggest a rug with a transitional style.

Since you like pink and blue, a rug like this may work since it also includes a little of the beige floor tile color on the lower right side and a little of the black door color in the middle. It's modern design could complement the modern console and artwork while its white/cream color will complement the walls/columns and the red/orange would complement the wood.

Either a 5x7 or 6x8 would be nice in that area, tuck the rug under the legs of the console. Move the console closer to the door (centered on the wall) then center the rug on the console.

I agree that a 5 x 8 is the way to go. You need to treat that entry almost as a separate room even though it is open to the living room. Getting the right rug and right relationship between the rug and the console is best. Please don't paint the far door a color. It needs to blend into the rest of the wall and not disrupt the flow.
