My maiden rose photos

Captain Harry Stebbings

Bloom from a first year plant. So far I like the color and it makes a nice cut. Fragrance is nice but not up to level I had read it would deliver. Maybe later this season or next year its fragrance will match its reputation.

Kein Name

This was a developmental rose that was on the bargain table at Heirloom Roses over Labor Day weekend two years ago. The sales staff didn't know anything about it except that it was from one of the German hybridizers. Kein Name means "No Name" in German. I should have shaken the rain off from today before shooting the photo. It didn't look so waterlogged in the lens. I'm learning. Nice fragrance, makes a nice cut, and I like its vibrant color. After this season I need to move it to where I can reach it better. So far it's a little shorter than I imagined - about 2 1/2' to maybe 3' tall.

Taken yesterday. Despite the BS showing, it's actually been very disease resistant.

Congrats on some very nice photos. Look forward to more.

I love your Heirloom table choice of No Name. Captain Harry Stebbings is one I'd like to know more about. How floriferous and how many days in a bouquet when cut in loose bud stage.

Love the colour combo of Kein. I've never seen this rose before. It is beautiful.

Thanks, Jim. I may not have many water bead shots in the future - at least I hope not. We'll enter our dry season soon. After July 4th it often doesn't rain here until late October and then it catches up in a fury. I'm glad to get this rain, we've had a very dry spring and need to get the water table back up.

Irisgal - CHS has cranked out 5 gorgeous blooms so far this year. 5-6 inches when bloom out. Cutting them after it's really started opening, they're lasted about 5 days, that's good. Cutting in loose bud stage should add another day or two, I'd guess. It's supposedly a little slow to rebloom from what I've read and my experience so far supports that. It reminds me of Buxom Beauty a lot. It put's a lot of energy into its large blooms and takes a little time to recover.

jjpeace - You may not see this rose anywhere. It was an end of season sale that we happened on. It was band size, own root and we, for all I know, could have been the only ones to take a chance on an unknown, developmental rose. We were sipping our way across Oregon wine country when we visited Heirloom and easily influenced. In fact, we were sipping our way across Sonoma when we bought CHS at Russian River Roses last October. The two seem to go together. Someone should write a song about that. :)

does not look like the captian harry I've been growing for many years, mine is much more pink, very fragrant, and prone to powdery mildew.....

My Capt Harry bloomed, and sure enough color was very similar, the memory can fool you now and then....
