Hard to know. Figs don't like wet feet. Their roots rot easily. Well drained soil is what they love. I guess you will have to wait and see. You should put your planting zone in your profile so we can see where you are. A fig is hard to kill unless it's roots get too wet.

Thanks for the reply. I thought I had the zone in there, sorry about that. I'm in Tulsa OK. It's zone 7, a or b depending on the map.

At this point I would give it time - as Suzi said, figs are tough as nails and it takes sustained effort to kill them. And if by small chance they don't recover, that healthy fig looks like it can produce clones in no time :)

Thanks for the tips everyone. I've been easing up on the water, but still giving some as it's been 95ish with heat indices in the 115 range this last week. But I did go out and do a scratch test and one of them had green on one of the small branches/shoots, and the other had some green closer to the root cluster. Here's to hoping!

Figs in the wild are extraordinarily resilient. I will never forget picking about 5lb of fruit from a wild fig tree, the roots of which were clinging to a rock, and barely under the soil at all. this was on a rock-face, on the Island of Elba, off the coast of Italy... There were plenty of figs left on the three, too... They like the dry side, and prefer to have their roots confined, for good fruit production.

Too much or ample root room will mean fewer fruits produced.

They prefer to be on the dry side, or at least have really well-drained compost.
