How to trim Clematis?

I have a Vinca growing up the side of the house. At the basehas a Clematis. It has grown up through the Vinca and looks fleek.
The problem is that the Vinca is growing wider than I want and I have to trim it back. It is at a height where I cannot get in there and gingerly find the vines to separate and clip the branches.
Anyone have any suggestions/experience to offer?
