We are moving, and I want to take some of my iris with me. I know nothing about them- a neighbor gave them to me years ago, they LOVE the spot they are in, and I'd like to take about 1/2 with me. They need to be thinned anyway, I've never done that either!

All I can find is to transplant in the fall/winter...we are moving now, there isn't a choice. What is the best way to go about trying to dig up and move some? Is it as simple as trying to salvage the roots and make sure they don't dry out?

Oh, and this is s. texas (8b), so it's getting pretty warm outside.
