I do agree with that, but I was looking for something that I could DIY myself.

I understand but if you are changing in hopes of haveing it look better,custom made is the way to go. Do you have a hand held power saw,drill and basic hand tools? Research "Kreg Jig" and look for plans that use one. With only a little experience,determination,basic tools and a Kreg Jig you might suprise yourself. I would ask around the neighborhood about a good handyman before writeing off custom made. Around here,Ikea is the place for knock down furniture.

Thank you. I had looked an ana-white previously. I was looking more of less for cabinets (not Ikea as I don't want particle board and they aren't deep enough) that are either ready-made or ready-to-assemble that I could line up together and attach together, much like kitchen cabinets. When I say DIY, I mean put it together myself, not build it myself, lol. I called the place where I got my kitchen cabinets, and asked if they had anything in their line of brands suitable for wardrobe closets, but they didn't. I need more than a closet organizer because I want hinged doors for each individual unit rather than the sliding door configuration that I had before. I guess I'm kind of surprised that Ikea is the only place that sells that sort of thing!

It's difficult to say how much actual work (cost savings) you can perform under the direction of a professional but that might be an option. If you are comfortable assembling pre-cut kits, you should be able to assist a pro. Even small jobs that involve hanging drywall/paneling,doors and 2x framing requires or at least benifit's from a helper. You would need a pro for one day. Two hours to measure and make a material list for you to buy,plus four hours on the day he returns to cut and nail things togeather then two hours to tape and texture. Material for all wood,no texture will be a little more expensive and take longer to trim but you should be able to cut and install trim useing an inexpensive miter box/back saw. At any rate you can paint/stain/finish the project. Find a custom cabinet shop and give them your sketch ups for an estimate.

Klem, without a source besides Ikea for RTA wardrobe closets, I think you are right ... custom is my only option. I'll make some inquiries. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Jellytoast, I wish I had pics to show you, but at our previous house master bedroom, my dh built three 5 ft. closets along the long wall of our bedroom by framing, drywall and header . We made two of the closets with upper and lower hanging rods, and the center closet was for drawers. Worked out great for us.

Jellytoast, have you looked at Barker Cabinets? They are RTA but plywood construction instead of particleboard and can be made to whatever size you want. I used them for my kitchen and was happy. Not sure if the wood cabinet doors are what you are looking for, or whether you can have just the boxes made.

I've had very good luck with CSH: http://www.cshardware.com/kitchen-and-bath/cabinets/kitchen-cabinets.html. I haven't bought full cabinets, but I did buy doors from them a few years ago and I was super satisfied. I buy all my hardware from them.

Take a look at their RTA pantry cabinets - tall and 24" deep - and all wood.
