Amazing! What flowers pink or purple like this?

Is this Horwood? Very nice, I hope you get some seeds from it. That's a massively thick stalk the flowers are on.

I bought it as S. thyrsiflora (or some misspelling of that) which is another or old name for S. hyacinthoides (web research) but then vitorama said it looks just like her S. rafillii ... it really doesn't resemble a hyacinthoides so, who knows what it is.

It opened last night. I couldn't detect any fragrance, no nectar drops on this one either. It's 106 deg. here today, expecting 110 tomorrow. I put some shade cloth up so they are shielded from morning sun just in case.

Wow! Those flowers are just so beautiful! You really do quite well with your plants. Anything else blooming right now that you could hybridize? Wouldn't that be fun!

Thanks Vitorama, I just bought this what, 4 weeks ago, LOL. I thought it was pushing up a new leaf...nope. But this is interesting, the leaves will come, in time. I think I'm going to bring it in the house tonight, flowers are open, to check for fragrance.

The francisii may have a couple buds left to open, or not. I'll bring that one in too.

Unusual that there's no fragrance, especially at night. Really nice bunch of blooms though, and hopefully you'll get some seeds.

Turns out it has fragrance but only if I stick my nose close - no waft on this one. I took some pics in natural morning light, when I get back to my computer I'll post them. The francisii didn't open, I think it's finished. Oh well. Next year.

Really weird! The wonderful nighttime fragrance is usually so powerful that it gets overwhelming and I have to get out of the area. Once away the scent still lingers delightfully in the nose. But maybe this is a trait of this particular species, I dunno.

That was true of Fernwood and cylindrica blooming inside - the whole room was fragrant. Not sure if it's because only a few blooms or open or what. I had all the windows closed, fan on, 95 deg. last night. I'm keeping it indoors for monitoring.

Here are Monday's pics , it seems the flowers open in the afternoon around 5pm. From the soil level it's 18" tall and maybe 4" wide (stamen to stamen).

Thanks Russ. This plant looks 100% better when it's blooming. And oddly enough, when the plants are all together they all seem to blend in (to my eye), but pull one out by itself and one can fully appreciate it's beauty. The fragrance is still really subdued but very nice, like expensive cologne. It's different, the word that comes to mind is forest; not as sweet as Fernwood or cylindrica was in bloom.

I know what you mean, I have so many sans and other plants that their attractiveness gets lost in all the texture and color. But single one out and really look at it, each one has it's own beauty in some way.

I haven't noticed a difference in fragrance between sans, I guess the interval between bloomings has been too long to remember one from the next. But it's heady and on the sweet side, and in a closed area like my shadehouse can be overwhelming.
