Osakazuki JM Not Doing Well - Too Sunny?

I am in Zone 8 (NC). I planted an Osakazuki JM earlier in the spring this year. Unfortunately we got a late frost that damaged it, and it really hasn't recovered since. After the frost we had a ton of rain, then it got very hot all of a sudden. It is planted in a full sun location (12 hours of sun), but is sheltered from winds. I have seen very small new buds, but they seem to grow a bit then shrivel and die.

Is it receiving too much sun? Will I need to move it, or can I create some shade with a blanket until it recovers? It looks terrible ever since the frost, but was doing great before the frost!
