It is even more reliable than Chambeyronia... though hard to generalize about Syagrus (some are super hardy, others are total wimps). Definitely more cold tolerant than a coconut, but I would not say more tolerant of wet conditions... few palms can beat a coconut's ability to handle wet conditions (they can life with their trunks in standing water and rainfalls over 10' a year). They are commonly grown in California, Florida and Hawaii and do well in all three climates. No mature palms in cultivation I know of, but trunking ones exist now (short trunks).

I should have said syagrus romanzofianna specifically, not any of the more tropical varieties. And I meant cold, wet conditions like what we have in the Central Valley with our weeks-long fog spells in winter. After reading through my post I realized how vague it was.

How old is your beccariophoenix? You should share a picture of it. If I'm not mistaken, you've got a really enviable collection of palms Palmbob.

I can guess. Its from highlands like Bismarckia. I've seen southern central valley big Bizz palms.

I think the key- as for all marginals- is protect the first 2-3 winters with all you can from freezing temps...then after that it can do well in anything but a deep freeze.

Mine yellow during periods of cool/wet unlike Syagrus romanzoffiana.
