New arrival

I received Hoya Australis Lisa on Tuesday. Sorry I didn't post pics and share earlier, it's been a bit of a busy week. I got it from the Czech Republic and it came pretty quickly. It was very well packed, I was impressed. It was in a shoebox and wrapped with bubble wrap and taped up very well and still had moist soil. I'm very impressed and will definitely consider ordering from the seller again. Here are some pics:

I also successfully rooted my tiny Hoya Bella cutting. I did the tug test and it is rooted. I didn't even have to use rooting hormone. I just kept the soil moist. Now if only I could have better luck with Hoya kerrii and Hoya compacta. I think I might try ordering a mature plant from Flora Exotica. Maybe I'll have better luck with a mature plant lol.

Bella is pretty easy, it likes it moist. I haven't tried rooting kerrii, both of mine came to me as rooted plants.

Compacta I do not know what to do with. I have had a rooted start of the solid green kind for a year, and it does NOTHING. Think I have figured out how to water this one now, but I swear mine never grows. Just sits there, looking like a tentacle. Now I have 2, was given a similar sized piece of the variegated form.

I swear Hoya compacta hates me lol. I have tried it twice so far. I bought young rooted plants and they just seem to get yellow leaves and shrivel up and die. Hoya Kerrii I have a little better luck with somewhat. I ordered a Hoya Kerrii from Thailand and the poor plant was in transit for over a month. The poor plant was so stressed out it died of a fungal infection a week later.

Still figuring out my kerrii, sometimes my green one will start growing a leaf and then just stops and I have these sad wimpy things to deal with. Think I was underwatering that. Oh, and compacta seems to hate water. I barely water mine and put a bunch of hydroton in the soil so have at least gotten that bit squared away, maybe. I might repot those entirely into semi hydro but I need to find some suitable containers for the job.

Congrats, lisa, on your new australis, it's very pretty. If you bought from the Czech vendor on ebay I also ordered from her and got some good cuttings at a good price. They were wrapped nicely but when I picked them up at the Post Office the clerk came out of the back room smirking and plopped the box down on the counter. I looked at it to see what was so funny and it was a fish stix box with foreign writing on it. It was pretty funny.

Good luck with your other hoya plant too. I killed a kerrii last year and just got up the courage to buy another one. I so overwatered it the last time so I'm being very careful with this one.

Sorry I got mixed up. The seller was on eBay and they are from Poland. I didn't need a phytosanitary certificate either. Didn't have any problems with customs either. Apparently they don't need a phytosanitary certificate if it is shipped from countries in the EU.

Here are some new pics of it. The red on the leaves are new leaves.

I still really want to get Hoya heuschkeliana variegata. Definitely on my wish list. I will have one someday. It is so pretty.

Yes, variegates heuschkeliana is too pretty to resist. And I generally do not care for variegated types, but they are growing on me.

A friend gave me a start of Australis Lisa! It grows really fast and it bloomed early!! I didn't think I would like it as well as I did, turned out, it is a great plant!
