Please Review Kitchen Design

My friend is renovating an old home. I told her I would help as she works and has two very young girls.

Here is her design. Feel free to comment away!

Thanks so much in advance!

Wow, look at all the drawers!

But the ones that seem most important to me are missing: near the range, there is no place for cooking utensils, potholders, or spices.

The island is a barrier - convenient to the eating space, but she'll have to take things out of the fridge, then walk around the island to prep anything.

Speaking of the island - it looks huge. Is it possible to reach the middle to clean it? Can you post an overhead view, with dimensions? In the perspective drawing, the aisle on the fridge side looks narrow.

Why do all the uppers go to the ceiling, but not the pantry cabinets?

Is that a super susan in the corner? With so much space, why a 33" instead of a 36"? And what's the 6" base on the sink wall?

This kitchen has a ton of room - but I'd spend some time figuring out where everything is going to go.

I think I would keep sink and range on the L perimeter....move island over to have good aisle movement then between fridge/sink/range....the cabinets below counter on the long isolated wall could become reduced depth once the appliance is removed.....install microwave on that run either sitting on counter or on wall shelf. The point is, keeping cook's activity on the right or L allows less criss- crossing.....Let the casual movement of people occur between island seating area and the isolated run......those shallower drawers can house kids stuff ..other household items and with microwave over there....it will help with less crowding where cook does her thing.

I partially agree with herbflavor. (and Ann about the 36" corner susan). Vintage sink and range can be switched, with a prep sink on the fridge wall, if the prep sink on the island is no longer in a location convenient to the range. This gives your friend a separate clean-up zone, and puts the range in a more protected spot--no one needs to walk behind the cook when entering the house. She'll be prepping in front of the window to the right of the range, and there are more prep spaces on the clean-up sink wall, for helpers. Quick rearrangement:

It looks as if it's going to be a beautiful kitchen!

Lol! I admit.. the only reason I came into this thread was I wanted to say "wth?!! Give me that stove you are getting rid of!" lol

What program are you using there?

Russ, lol...she is using Home Depot for design but decided to go with Conestoga cabs.

See? you did not say NO about your stove... just sayin.. :P

Mine should be in soon.. heh

Agree with Mama. You don't want the cooking in the path from the outdoors.

Aktillery, how nice of you to help your friend. Wow, what a nice big kitchen too!

I also would switch the clean up sink and stove locations. As mentioned, it would be more protected if it was not in a main walkway from an exterior door. Can the Windows be adjusted for that?

If you could post the overhead view with dimensions as Ann asked, that would help a lot.

It does look like that chair is in front of the fridge and too tight on that isle. This is going to be a wonderful space!

Regarding the stove and the sink, I think it might be too late as she has already purchased her windows. Also, I think she placed the sink where she did so she could look outside and watch the two little girls. That was her priority. I will mention it her anyway. I will see if she has an overhead view of the kitchen.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions thus far!!
