Hello Anita. It's difficult to tell somone what to do when they don't know themselves if they definitely want to prune! However, your trees look as though they seem to want to continue to rocket skywards don't they! If left alone you may well end up with one very, very long stemmed plant, the more branch ends you can encourage the better chance of flowers. These one stemmed affairs don't do it for me.

So, if you decide you want to change their appearance you can certainly prune them back, how far back you cut is your choice though. A light tip prune of the main growing point may just induce branches at the top and that would look rather odd I think. If you were to be more radical and prune 2/3rds of the leafy trunk part away, that could make branches form at all or some of the lower leaf nodes and this would make a better looking tree in my mind. It should also help the caudex fatten up to. However, our plants don't always do as they are told! They may branch where you don't want them too, or not at all! If you do prune, use a sharp sterile knife or scalpel and cut at an angle not flat. You could try to root the pruning, let it dry for a day or so and then plant up, it won't grow a fat bottom btw. Oh yes, please remove the other little plants in the same pot, it's never a good idea to let other things root in the same pot.

I think that will look nice Anita. It should give you more branching and later more flowers. update us as yours grow along.
