I've always thought if it as a tea and hacked it back whenever it needed it. Speaking of, if you do trim yours, I would gladly pay shipping for cuttings. Since I moved I have been unable to reacquire this rose because it's always out of stock.

It is almost certainly 'Barcelona' -- a Kordes HT from the 1930's. BUDDED, it will make a large, lusty plant. I'm told 5-ft., and blooming on long stems. On its own roots, it will want some heat to push it. In FL you may get that.

We must have gotten enough heat to "push it" on its own roots here -- to 6' tall and 10' wide. I treated it more or less like a hybrid tea and winter-pruned it back by 1/4 to 1/3 and a good bit after every flush ("emphatic deadheading"). It was vigorous here -- more spreading than tall.

Have you tried Linda at Long Ago Roses? That's where I got mine last year (band size, own root).
