Ordered 'Super Eskimo' today

I'd been admiring the Kroniana 'Super Eskimos,' but they were all so expensive. Saw only one on ebay, 2" pot, and $25! No way was I going to pay that for such a small plant that might die. Well, I finally found one at Kartuz for $9.99 in a 2-3" pot, is how it is described. $11 shipping. Same state I'm in, California. I couldn't resist. Now that our temps are around 106, I go and order a plant! DUH! At least it shouldn't take terribly long to get here. Anyone have this plant? How has it done for you? Do you have it in filtered sun, or shade?

Wish I knew. I have been oggling this one awhile too, the idea of a mixed pot of super eskimo, eskimo, black, and regular kroniana is super appealing to me.

will you post and show a picture of your plant when you get it?

i went to kartuz not too long ago and every plant i saw was red/yellow/orange - begonia and hoyas. i saw a completely yellow obovata - and no it was not some special variety and no i do not kid. the only greenish plant i saw was a small khroniana - eskimo.

the man told me i was in the greenhouse with the hoyas. maybe he was not telling the truth. i was appalled by what i saw.

I just ordered a Kroniana from eBay. I'm excited but nervous because I'm not familiar with this variety at all. I hope I don't kill it.

It kind of looks like Curtisii to me.

What in the world was up with red/yellow/orange hoyas? That's bizarre! Maybe the man you spoke to was a new employee and didn't know hoyas from other plants! And Monica, that Kroniana is breathtaking! You're right--it reminds me of Curtisii too! I had a Curtisii once, and promptly killed it. I hope this will be easier to grow for me. I will definitely post a pic when I get mine!

lol - I killed my Curtisii too. I hope the one I just bought is correctly identified and truly is Kroniana aka Eskimo.

he was an older, older man - i imagine related to people who own it. and the only plants i saw in 1 particular greenhouse were hoyas and begonias. the hoyas in the back were pretty much yellow/orangey. i have no idea how they accomplished that. lol. i should have snapped a picture.

i was so pissed i went down there, but happy i saw the plants in person. maybe the good plants were in another greenhouse. but like i said, the little khroniana was the only decent hoya i saw. it was small though.

don't mean to alarm you. hope your purchase turns out fine.

What do the two of you think happened to your Curtisii? That's one of the ones on my wishlist.

Received it today. It's definitely not a Curtisii. The leaves are larger than the leaves on the Curtisii I had. It's just a tiny baby of course, but arrived with no wilting, and looks healthy!

looks like what i saw at kartuz. it was the only green plant in the greenhouse.

Very nice Randi. Harawlins - I really don't know what I did wrong. I know they don't like wet feet so I made sure I never let it sit in water. Maybe I didn't water it enough.

I have a baby Hoya curtisii and they are moisture loving plants. I'm not sure if I need to transplant it yet. No roots coming out of the bottom. It's just in a little styrofoam cup. Cute little thing. I've had it for a little while. Apparently they are slow growers when they first start out. I've read that Hoya curtisii can be mounted on wood too but i have never done that with a Hoya before.

I'll keep that in mind about curtisii if I ever get my hands on one. But kroniana is nice too! Good luck with it!
