Last comment read on thread

I know someone had explained this but-------how can you make the setting so that when you go to a thread, it will go to the last comment you have read

That is not an option .I would think that it would be a minor programming change . Then again I'm not an IT person.

I don't know about a setting, but I hit comment, and it takes me to the last post.

Thank you-- that Comment is to write a comment and does take you to the bottom of the thread,. I thought someone had shared something about some setting that would take you to the last comment you had read.

I am not sure where I am getting this but it was some other icon?

I must be imagining this. oh well.

Just above the list of topics on the Home Decorating main page, on the right hand side next to the box that has "Latest Activity" are 2 small boxes. One has 3 horizontal lines and the other has two horizontal lines. Clicking on the box with 2 lines changes the display. You still get the main topic but you also get the beginning of the last comment that was posted to the discussion.

I hope that makes sense? Maire

But it's not the last comment you read, just the last posted comment. The "go to first unread" feature is built into some forum software, but not what Houzz uses.

Ah good point writer - I didn't catch that!

Sheila, Linelle explained a process to take you to the bottom of a post but I can't remember who asked the question.

Yes, there are many ways to go to the bottom of a thread, but none to go to the first post you haven't read.

At least the thread is high-lighted if you haven't read all the new post . I guess that's something !

Holly-Kay, I think that might have been a thread about using an iPad.

I'm using my MacBook now. I just hit Command-down arrow and it plunges me to the bottom of the page. I do need to scroll up a tad to hit the last comment, but it all happens in an instant and I don't even have to think about it anymore. I'm reluctant to use the Comment method, as you then have to get out of the dialog box and move up, with the off chance of making an errant comment.

Yes, it is used to post a 'new' comment, but does it matter *how* you get to the bottom of the page? lol That's the easiest for me.

On my Macbook, when I see the list of threads, if I click on the one comment showing, under the thread title, it takes me there - it's the last comment. If I click on the thread title, I go to the original post.

Good pointers here - much appreciated. I think I had in mind what MaireCaite posted, but I guess I had misunderstood and thought it would register the last post read in t a thread. It's all good. I have been managing quite fine on here the inefficient way.:)

I belong to other forums where there is a "first unread" button that will take you to the first post that you haven't read.

Linelle, thanks for that tip. I just opened my MacBook and tried the command down and it works great! Much better than scrolling through the whole darn post.

H-K, glad you like it. :) Of course, Command-up will send you back to the top of the page, in case you need to review the OP.

On my Dell keyboard I have an "end" key that works good for a long thread. Or else I use the "page up" and "page down" keys.

Sheila, now you've got my curiosity up. lol Could it have been the 'switch off notifications about new comments' under the Houzz photos? Just a thought....
