No ideas on what you could do with them except to say if you do something outdoors, try to protect them some way so they don't break. I would hate to have to pick up tiny shards of glass out of the grass or mulch, etc.

Very cool looking, does the glass feel thick, I'm thinking an old wooden screen door or frame from a large mirror that was on a chest mounted somewhere outside with these mounted on each side 2-3 on each side(like strip lighting kind of) They wouldn't light up of course but would look very cool set in wooden frame angled out . This probably doesn't make much sense can't seem to explain it!

My husband brought me something similar he found floating in the ocean, but it's red. We think it was a light from a ship.

Surely if they got all that stuff in there you can get it out. It would make a great Christmas decoration with a little snow scene in it with the silver part up or a little terrarium. I have made Santas out of small light bulbs but that is a giant and not the right shape.

Thanks for the ideas...and the humor! I ended up breaking one totally trying to pull the "guts" out. The interior wire is stiff and too wide to get out through the opening at the bottom. I think they must be something like a boat in a bottle where it's folded down to fit inside the thinner end, but once it's in, it pops up and gets too big to pull back out. I tried everything I could think of to get the insides out...even put a wire cutter up through the opening to cut the wires so the inside would fit through...BUT, then I was left with that white rectangle in the center which is hard and doesn't squish together to be able to be pulled out! I tried to break it by sticking a pliers up through the bottom and pinching it, but it's REALLY hard. I thought about cutting an opening in the side of the bulb at the wide end and pulling the "guts" out that way, but when I broke one, I realized the glass was too thin for me to be able to cut a "door" in it. Alas...they are sitting in a box in my garage calling my name and saying "use me for something" and I'm totally stumped!

You could pour paint in them and roll it around to completely cover the glass on the inside, then hang them in the trees or something, to add sparkle to your garden. I think metallic paints would be really pretty. Maybe even use several different colors in each to create a 'marbleized' effect.

Can you get the guts loose, even if they're still inside the bulb? they could be buried in planting mix or become part of your concrete knobs (see 2nd link above)

Wow, steiconi, lots of really neat projects there! I hope the OP comes back & sees them. I think I will try some of them one of these days, I have a box of burned out light bulbs I've been saving. I have a VERY hard time throwing out anything that might have a 'crafty' use.

I'm still here reading the suggestions. I think I might make some concrete bulbs out of a few of them. I hadn't thought about the fact that concrete would hide the "guts"! Thanks for the idea! ...Hubby was cleaning the garage yesterday and asked if I had any plans for the bulbs or should he put them in the trash! YIKES!!!

yeah, but to balance out, everything is more expensive. Our discount shops charge $1.50 to $3 for the same merchandise you get at Dollar Tree. Getting stuff shipped from the mainland is a headache; many places won't ship here at all, others charge ridiculous shipping.

When I travel to the mainland, I look forward to dollhouse shops, dollar stores, and Trader Joes! I don't think they should be allowed to wear Hawaiian shirts when they don't have stores in Hawaii.
