Bees in my Worm Bin

Today I noticed bees surrounding my Worm Factory 360. I have 2 of them, side by side, and the bees were definitely attracted to one of them. I searched on bing and google and found only a couple of instances of bees in worm bins. One youtube video showed picking up their worm bin lid and a huge hive of bees on it. So I had some courage and looked in mine, yes, lots of bees! I quickly backed off. I called the local bee expert, he came and re-located them to a bee keeper in a nearby town.

Now these bees had only been there one day, they were not there yesterday. And they were just barely starting to build a hive. The brown mass on the lid is solid bees. I have seen bees swarm in my neighborhood before, they do it in hot weather when they need to split their hive and find new digs. I wish I could have kept them but as you can see, they are right next to my house and there were so many that I was afraid to do anything with my worm bin.

Always something new in the garden and worm bins.
