Did someone cut down a crapemyrtle in that location? Stumps and roots will continue to sprout for several years.

Crepe myrtle suckers. Neighbors tree does this in my yard. They grow from the tree roots.

Yup. Crepe Myrtle suckers from the root. We cut one down and hacked out the main root area 5 years ago and I've seen these every year since. I just keep removing the suckers with my trowel, they come back in about a month and I do it again, I keep thinking one day it will finally give up the ghost. I've got a friend with a whole lawn full of them because they took out a big one and there's some really serious suckers covering areas like ground cover on the median by the park where they took out several of them.

They may have. My husband ordered all the greenery removed before we moved in. I have no idea what was here. Would it grow into a tree? I love crepe myrtles. I can pot it right and plant it somewhere else? How would I keep it from re-sprouting there? I think there's more behind it. We have a wooden fence in front of a link fence (don't ask, I don't know, lol).
