Requesting ideas for stove backsplash for old house

This is always such a great community for getting some great input. Here's the gist: in our kitchen remodel of a 1905 "Simple Victorian" bungalow, we are trying to be relatively period consistent with finishes but we're not trying to re-create a long-gone 1905 kitchen. We're installing gray Shaker style cabinets, soapstone counters, period reproduction lighting. We're installing a Bluestar 36" stove, black enamel. We're not getting fancy with countertop backsplash--we're doing a 5" soapstone backsplash but no tile, just paint, at least for now. What ideas do folks have for a stove backsplash? I don't think I want to do soapstone there too, as the hood will be black, the stove is black, and the countertops are black. I'm considering using tin panels for backsplash. Other thoughts?
