ALL weeping laceleaf maples are dwarf trees :-) They tend to remain quite short by virtue of the fact their branching structure grows out laterally and then bends or cascades/weeps, rather than growing more vertically or upright. The only way you ever achieve much height is to stake one of the terminal branches into a more upright position. And the height is also determined to some degree by where the graft union is located - low grafted dissectums will remain quite short - higher grafted selections will be somewhat taller.

As the cultivar name implies, 'Waterfall' will produce a low cascade of bright green branches that often sweep the ground in a waterfall of foliage :-) The attached is a classic example of what 'Waterfall' looks like in the landscape - Acer palmatumvar. dissectum'Waterfall'

Thank you! It's next to some lantana and that is almost the same height as the tree!! Granted, we will have to cut that lantana way back. It always grows too big! The tree graft is about a foot up on the trunk.

I'll give it some fertilizer and add extra mulch now that the weather is heating up. Cool nights, hot days!

JM's require very little in the way of any fertilizer. Just a good mulch around the tree should suffice.
