Quartz is best! Low/ no maintenance!

White Macaubas is a quartzite (not to be confused with QUARTZ-which is man made). Quartzite is about 20% denser than a granite is, so its great for kitchens. You still need to seal it once a year and use some practical upkeep like always using trivets/hot pads and cleaning up spills in a timely matter. Its a beautiful stone and holds up wonderful with just a little care!

We had one client select it but had to let it go. It priced out 3X what any other stone priced at. Way out of reach for most people.

It is more gray based for sure. I have a lot of customers search for "white" quartzite (with marble in their minds) and I always tell them its more of a gray than a white base.

Amala-what is the range ($$) for quartzite in a slab yard?

It depends on where in the country you live I think. In California I'm seeing it between $35-45sqft for the material.

That's what I was afraid of. :( Our allowance is $18 sq ft so it looks like I will be having to double that. :(

Theres a granite called River White that has similar colouring and veining that is worth checking out but much less than white macaubas!

That is beautiful! I love it!!! Can I get it in California? Also, what type of backsplash would look good?

We will have white shaker cabinets. I am going for the "beachy cottage" feel so would like to incorporate either greens or blues.

I found some markedly whiter Macaubas-- it just took some looking (and nagging, and prying ;-). I just bought this from Cosmos in St. Louis. I think they have another lot available with four slabs in it-- perhaps as white as my lot?
