I would go with a 3/4 or full glass door. They have different ratings for privacy on the glass so that shouldn't be a problem.

We have a pella door that has the full window with the blind inside. We love it for our dark hallway. We have a red door but they come in a variety of colors.

Thank you for your commentary. I like the idea of the obscure glass; there are glass blocks to the right of the front door; would it need to be similar glass? And the orange color is something I saw on another home & was really attracted to - plus there are rust orange, light gold, & charcoal flecks in the cast stone, Not sure there is room for a skylight, it is just a hallway. I completely agree regarding the landscaping but it needs to wait a bit as both sides of the yard need to be dug out to the front street & through the concrete for new sewer lines. This will involve many $$$. So a new door will be a nice improvement until then.

What area of the U.S. to you live? That depends a lot on the exterior color choices.

The glass would not need to be the same obscure pattern as the glass blocks. There are many to choose from. But remember, that with obscure glass you will not be able to see out. Thanks for explaining about the necessary delay in landscaping.

Go look online at Crestview Door - they have all kinds of options for different budgets. Definitely stick with a door with horizontal glazing to echo the horizontal glazing on your home.

Since you have pale brick that tends to read a little pink, you want to avoid green, purple, orange and even red. Best choice I think is a pale dove gray - to make the whole thing look more expensive and deliberate. You could get a wood door and stain it dove gray so the grain really shows through. Then use charcoal for any trim there is on the house / site. See

To libradesign eye - I'm an amateur, so am not sure what 'horizontal glazing' means. Yes the stone does look a little pink in the photo, but in real life it is a very light gray-beige with light gold, rust orange, & charcoal flecks. I also think the light fixture needs to come down a little. Thank you for your help.

Terry- when you pick out a door, if you select one with the windows (glazing / sorry!) running sideways or horizontal, it will echo the windows on your house. If your stone has rust tones, don't go bright orange, either match the rusty tone or consider a mustard gold that will harmonize but still pop.

I would try the colors that interest you on large poster boards. Look at them from a distance and determine which pleases you most.

As for the glass on the door, the door itself is vertical and I see no reason not to have a vertical piece of glass in it. I'd consider it a nice change from all the horizontal lines of the house. However, I also do like the design of the orange door that I showed you above and it has the horizontal glass orientation that Libra mentions above.

Once you get some tall trees and shrubs, there will be some much needed vertical lines going on in your landscaping, if not in the house itself.
