Lost a friend: Bob Smoley

Bob had cancer for a couple of years and passed away in May. Our Succulent Society held our sale in April and Bob was there (with plenty of help). We said our good byes at the time although he was ready to go out and purchase MORE plants that next week! Up to the end he didn't want to give up his plants.

We will certainly miss Bob.

for now his wife, Mary Ann, will continue the mail order business.

I didn't have the pleasure of knowing him, but he is spoken of fondly here. I'm sure he will be missed by many. I hope his wife can find some measure of peace, however slight, during this difficult time.

I knew Bob for almost 20 years. I used to meet him at the connecticut cactus society show when I lived in new york. He moved to florida shortly after I did. I asked him once, about 7 years ago, to adopt me while we were selling at the USF plant sale. I was only in my 50s! I am going to miss him.

I posted on the Cactus forum. I was able to speak with his wife a short time ago. Her son is helping her. She stated that Bob knew his plants so many are not labeled. She stated that it may be hard to order certain sans for a while where many are not labeled. Very pleasant lady and I wish her well.
