wonderful pics and lucky you!!! I would love the problem of thinning, it might be emotionally hard to do as I have learned that getting fruit on an apricot is a game of chance.

I found out many times it's better not thin in the far north, ANY fruits, most likely you'll get hit with hail ones or twice anyway protecting the fruits behind which might have a chance to get harvested and the ones what take the hit fall off or unusable.

I've been so lucky here. We just had small hail a few weeks ago it really hit the black ice plums the worst maybe the angle they were getting hit?

just wondering when westcot start to finish up. Mine are 1/2"-1" in size I just don't know what to expect with these now. They grew to this size so fast but now seem kinda stunted? Maybe I'm watering to much or to less ? Was also thinking about giving them one last good fertilizing

Some fruits can handle hail better then others, my cherry plums looked allot worse then apricots, the European plums help up better also then Japanese plums.

That's pretty normal on sizing, they grow up to it's size and stay like this for a long time until ripe.

they are beautiful, you should be proud. With your aphid problem on the plums it is nice to see your apricots have excelled.

IMO I would not thin because of the risk of hail, crazy wind storm, tornados, birds, etc. I noticed you have some rope, for the heavier loaded branches, would it be possible to provide additional support to them in some way? For my (indoor) tangerine tree we tied the branches up when the fruit got heavy.

It really is something to be able to grow in these areas with the short seasons and lucrative weather. Well done!

Here is pic from today I ignored my yard for last few days was at stampede for weekend with wife and kids . The westcot all are getting large and almost all orange now. The Riley branches are loaded with small fruits about half size it's kinda cool I have apricot trees that will give me fruit all summer long. There is some capilano seedlings mixed in I don't label my grafts my error. I think I can see one branch with bigger green fruit still if I could guess these would be the Edmonton capilano.

I don't really have the need to support that one apricot tree much more. If I do rope it in anymore spots the wind will just rub all the fruit off on the string. I've had a lot of intense sun and rain here .my Goji berries have been feeding the birds lol and my fall gold raspberries have already given me a few hundred berries and still producing well. And grapes this year I finally have some .been trying so hard with these hopefully hail and bugs dont wreck them.

I feel like when we get a day of plus 30 back here the fruits change color .therr is already a few plums turning red.

It's been plus 30s back here last few days I gave them a light watering today and will let them get scorched a few more days than start picking. I wonder if it's ok to pick all at once or if I should only pick like 1/4 one day 1/4 next day and the last half a week or so later. I've read and been told not to pick all fruit off trees at once.

I'm happy probably got about 500 nice apricots off my trees. And another few hundred from rileys pink flowering.these red blush ones were being sold as westcot about 5-7 years ago. I purchased a few actually 3 of them. One is recovering from over fertilization and the others were loaded this year. Pics don't do justice on actually how many are hanging. I'm not 100% I'd trust anybody selling nursery trees now with the varieties . Just a big old scam. I tasted a few different hardy apricots now and they do have a astringent taste . These bright orange red blusher ones I have are a fine eating quality and have no signs or characteristics to those other ones I have that kinda have a tarty taste. These are really good quality I wish I could get some to the fruit show but they are almost all done. I left about 100 harder ones on the trees but they are falling off with winds

I seen casino apricot with exact same fruits as mine hanging off it at a nursery with a tag on it. They also sell westcot. Casino is fairly new the one I seen was 12ft tall with fruit almost identical. Which leads me to believe none of the varieties sold in Alberta in last 7 years are true to the variety unless somebody like Konrad has made them.

Just did the final pick today. I left one branch actually to see if I can ripen them into September. These trees gave me fruit for about a month. I'm so impressed.

the apricots I picked today were firm some still a bit of crunch tasted like honey a bit had an amazing taste definitely the best apricots I've had. One time before this I had crunchy honey tasting apricots in osoyoos . definitely not sellable at this state as they go mushy in a day or two after being picked.

Now it's my euro plums and wanteta and toka crops I'm waiting to finish.i need Mother Nature to give us a good September heat wave :)

you could always dig a larger hole and mix up the clay with some good soil and manure . they were definitely worth the work.

I really cant wait until my Casino Apricot tree produces. It is my only Apricot tree, I am reserving my only spot left to plant a tree for a Capilano Apricot tree. I wish my yard wasnt so tiny grrr lol Has anyone had much luck grafting apricot to plum root stock? I am really investigating what I can do with my one plum sucker and hoping to come to a final decision before February lol

Does any of you guys freeze seeds . I tried keeping them in containers during summer they just mold and flies go all over so I started freezing them in ziplock a with a coat of water. I figured it would be same as winter here than maybe in March I can plant them in some beds and pots in my yard ?

I don't think freezing them is a bad idea at all Matt. I would just air dry them first so they don't stick together frozen.
