Thinning apricots in far north

So two of my trees are very loaded with a lot of fruit that hasn't grown much in a while. I'm wondering if thinning is required up north where getting fruits on tree is rare. It's just such a hard thing to do .the two tree have been in ground 5-6 years now . Lots get knocked off by winds and hail ect. Will the fruits get bigger on other branches if wind cleaned off other branches on other areas of tree or does the thinning need to happen to the actual clusters ?

The rate the fruit grew to about 1" was incredible we had a hot spring though. Last probably 4 weeks have not compared to earth and sunlight we had prior and fruit hasn't grown a lot I was expecting to pick these in mid July .
