Rosie kindly gave me permission to repost her great list on the Facebook Vintage Violet Friends Page. When I did that, I did a little research in the Optimara Glossary on each of the violets on the list to see what the current status was, if I could. I found it very interesting - especially that many of them were re-introduced as another name or in a different form. I think it would be almost impossible to find an original of most of these now. The exceptions might be Elfriede, which Selective Gardener was selling (and I bought one).

So this is Rosie's original list with my added notes in brackets.

1970 Rhapsodie Elfriede-dark blue single, large bouquet of flowers. [Introduced 1965, no revision]

1973 Rhapsodie Astrid-medium blue sport of Elfriede. [re-introduced 1974, Optimara has no other info]

1973 Rhapsodie Barbara-two tone mauve sport of Elfriede. [re-introduced 1988 as frilled purple. A second Barbara available in Europe has single pink flowers and girl leaves and was sold in the USA as Gemini.]

1973 Rhapsodie Veronika-plum purple, Elfriede sport. [re-introduced 1974, Optimara has no other info]]

1970 Rhapsodie Claudia-clear pink, single large flowers. [re-introduced 1987, with frilled two tone pink]

1970 Rhapsodie Maria-dark violet blue single, girl leaf. [re-introduced 1981, frilled white. A second Maria was sold in Europe with singel two tone dark blue flowers, and sold in USA as Wyoming]

1970 Rhapsodie Gisela-clear pinking, attractive contrast to it's small dark green leaves. [re-introduced 1987. A second Gisela (maybe the earlier one, with red flowers) available in Europe renamed Akira, and in USA as North Carolina]

1970 Rhapsodie Ruth-medium blue single. [re-introduced 1991 as white with a burgundy center]

1970 Rhapsodie Patricia-blue and white semi double. [re-introduced 1993, frilled dark pink]
