Posting Pictures

I finally have a new computer. That means that I am no longer limited by having to operate in "safe mode". I am experimenting with posting pictures, but I noticed that most folks here do NOT post pictures. There must be a reason for that, beyond being too busy.

I know that I REFUSE to join "facebook", for good reasons known to me, thanks, unfortunately, to misfortunes of others.

Any suggestions? I would like to make an avatar for my screen-name here at Gardenweb. It's a picture of my son, when he was little, helping me in the garden. Is there a reason I shouldn't do that?

I avoid posting pictures of children because there are pervs out there that might use them. I post pictures sometimes. I think some people have trouble doing it from phones. There is no reason not to post pictures here. Go right a head.

I say go ahead. I love looking at others gardens/harvests/ideas.

    Well, I will hold off.

We don't mind pictures, we just don't usually bother until it's important for identification or such. I guess I get enough of that on facebook.

Some folks are not as computer literate as others and find posting photos very taxing. Others don't have equipment. Some are very nice folk who don't want to post a nice shiny photo lest it put down others who are less fortunate (seriously nice folks here!) I think a great many are private. Gardenweb (Houzz) is very public. Oklahoma Gardenweb is one of the most active localized gardening groups online. If you Google "Okiedawn" and any vegetable, her posts will come up at the top search. (Dawn, do you have any idea how much people pay to have such search results for their business or blog? LOL) So, many desire privacy as much as possible for this reason.

Then, there are stalkers of which Dawn can relate! Some have openly asked for the gps location of her garden expecting to take full advantage of the lack of privacy on the internet. Uh.. nope.

For a very long time I didn't have anything but really old phones with a puny camera function and would only post photos when absolutely essential to get a good ID (and make everyone squint). I have a decent active phone now, but I'm lazy. I post all my photos on my facebook page and that's only because my own facebook feed is cluttered with work acquaintances that aren't related to gardening, but most do seem to enjoy seeing them Still, I decided to start that page specifically for the garden. I tell ya. Facebook is a blasted trap! I sign up for groups, still, but the minute there's drama or trouble I'm out. I really cannot afford too many distractions. I'm getting better about that discipline.

There's no right or wrong, no hidden in between the lines. Post all ya like! Be yerself!

I used to post pics a lot more frequently, but when we were moved to Houzz, it became more difficult. With my new phone, it became easier, but like Bon says...I post pics on FB endlessly, so I tend to do less so here.

This whole conversation made me laugh. I needed a laugh. I just had a picture of my son, when he was about 5, helping me in the garden. He died 4 years ago. I also have pictures of my little grandson in the garden. I think I will just hold off with the pictures.:) I might find a funny avatar that suits my personality.

Turbo Cat, my very favorite avatar for myself is a poppy just getting ready to "pop". I'll have to see if I can find it, and I'll post it.
