Hoya australis ssp. keysii is it's new name. It was formerly Hoya australis (Traill). There is also Hoya pottsii Traill (now known as Hoya nicholsoniae). Both plants' former ID were named so, because of who found them, I think (Hoya pottsii Traill, shows a J. Traill and a GW Traill listed on their hebarium, so I am pretty confident that Traill is a person). Once they were further classified into sections, their names were changed.

Upon further research, the name austrails ssp. keysii seems to be in dispute, as well. Many US sellers are selling australis ssp. australis as hoya keysii or Hoya australis ssp. keysii.

It appears that the genus Hoya is undergoing a major revision and there are a huge number of "unresolved" species. Might have to wait for a while before the dust settles on this one. At the moment "they" seem to have cut back on some of the H. australis subspecies and even made some of them species of their own.

The name appearing after the species name is the person/s publishing the scientific description.

Keysii is the name that ssp. australis is often found under. There's another name it used to be sold under as well, whose name escapes me. Started with an "s" and I think it was Ted Green that sold it under that name. Sanae or something like that. He now sells it under keysii. All the same. Anyone wants cuttings?
