All I would add to the above is make sure the soil is well draining. And I second the recommendation for planting deeply and cutting back after planting. Very sound advice!!

Added a couple of inches of soil. Thanks for the advice. I didnt cut back as they were really small ( 1 -3 inches tall) when i got them. now they are about 4-7 inches. should i cut them now??

At that size, not really necessary. You just want the new vines to focus on making roots, not foliage or flowers :-))

With tiny plants like that, you will have to be patient. This year they will be working on roots. Next year they will be working on roots and will send up some more vines. Be sure in early spring to cut back any vines formed this year to encourage bushiness. You may not see flowers yet next year, and you will want to keep other plants from providing too much shade this year and next when they are still small. The third year you can prune according to pruning type, and you can expect to see flowers, and it just gets better from there IME. Keep them evenly moist, not dry and not soggy. I use mulch around the plant, though not against the stems, to help maintain moisture.

You can pinch out the growing tips....you want them to focus on root development and putting up new vines from the buried crown. You don't want just one....
