OT Tent Repair

It IS stored in my tool shed.

I have an over 30 year old Sears Hillary canvas tent with a plastic tarp like floor. The canvas in the tent is in good shape and does not appear to be rotted. All of the poles are in original condition. However the plastic floor is going to need to be replaced. Right now the floor side wall seams are reinforced with duc tap. The folds where the tent is folded up for storage is looks like it could shred at any time.

Could you share your experiences or opinion in replacing the floor vs the cost of a new tent.

New tents are fabric and quite thin compared to my old tent, The floors are water resistant cloth, and they look flimsy compared to the Hillary.

You don't state the actual dimensions , but either utilizing a leather stitching sewing machine yourself or outsourcing to a tent repair facility you could easily justify repairs to a canvas material tent . The bonus with canvas is that it can easily be re-water proofed . I had a 12' x 16' tent refloored for about 80 bucks ten yrs ago since I had a quality sewing machine . To outsouce add another 80 to 100 bucks for a reputable repair facility . Personally I would repair the current canvas tent vs buying a new tent .

I was watching TV and saw an ad for Flex Seal. It looks like it would be ideal for coating the floor of the degrading plastic floor of my tent.

Has any one ever used Flex Seal and does it come any where near what they advertise it to be?

If it does work would it stand up to the folding of the tent floor when you put the tent in its bag.
