Dorothy, I am right there with you on the water bill. When ours arrived on Friday, I looked at it and asked myself how much longer I'm willing to keep watering at the rate required when no rain has fallen for over 30 days. I decided 'not much longer'. As you know, there's a point where it doesn't pay off, financially, to keep watering, and I generally hit that point sometime in July if rain stubbornly refuses to fall.

Sorie, I was looking at the OK Mesonet rainfall maps this morning and marveling at how much rain was falling in such a short time. It is a shame it all fell so fast that much of it likely ran off, but it still is better to get that rainfall than to not get it. I hope a lot of it soaked in.

We got rain too, so I guess I no longer can say we haven't had rainfall in a month. We got 0.02" though, so I can keep saying we haven't had good rainfall in over a month now. After that .02" fell, the ground still looked bone dry. Such is life in OK in the summer.

Yes, don't be fooled by that Rainfall Since Midnight 3.30 inches because that is at the Mesonet station, not Grove. If you take a close look there is a small yellow area under all that green. We are very wet with more on the way. Yikes.

Yeah, there's 2 inches of water in our guage. The kiddie pool I emptied the other day was half full when the granddog came to play. So the cumulative 1" for Tulsa is off for us, too.

Yes, the Mesonet is often not even close, and even the color coded rainfall that is radar indicated sometimes is off by at least a couple of inches for us on a day we get heavy rainfall. It drives me crazy and is one reason we have rain gauges to capture our own actual rainfall. I know this happens if they have the radar indicated rainfall program set to record standard rainfall, and if instead torrential (tropical) rainfall occurs at a much faster rate. The standard program doesn't capture tropical/torential rainfall well. There have been times we have had 6-12" of rainfall in one day, and the radar-indicated rainfall map shows 25-50% of what fell. Still, it is the only real rainfall map we have that gives everyone an idea of what is happening across the state----we just have to take the totals with a grain of salt. I will add that two rain gauges about 150' apart on our property, with no obstructions near them and no trees or buildings nearby that might funnel extra rainfall onto them, often don't even agree with each other at all, which is a reminder how variable rainfall can be.

We've had almost 1 & 1/2 inch so far. We're hoping for even more.

We had a lot of rain last night which took us by surprise. The rain was nice, but there were 3 teen boys very disappointed that their firework fun was shut down. (I, myself, was relieved as the dogs were already losing their minds. We still have one more night to go! Maybe more.)

Anything goes out here. Between rainstorms, one of our neighbors put on a show that was insane. Bricktown or any of the city or golf course displays have nothing on him. It was ridiculous. He could have taken his entire family on a European cruise for what that cost, I'm almost certain. You know how fireworks displays have one or two go up at a time, and then there's a big finale at the end where several are shot up at the same time? Well, his entire 30 minute long display was a finale. It was loud, probably very expensive, but beautiful.

We still have two neighbors (who also put on large displays) to go! I'll get the dogs medicated early.

I am thankful for the rain. It's a nice treat to have in July.

Our 2 day rainfall map shows 2", but I think it was closer to 4" (between Seminole and Wewoka.) I almost watered, but we started getting raindrops. We had a break between 9:30 and 12:15-just long enough for neighbors to shoot off a large collection of extremely loud fireworks. I really need to talk to them about some of our elderly neighbors and a better location/direction to shoot them.

We was robbed. OKC is dying of thirst.

That's what my mom said, texasranger2! She was at our house last night and experienced our heavy rain. She lives 20 minutes away in south OKC (we're at the Moore/Norman border) and she got nothing!

Tex, I wish I could give you about five inches...my yard has standing water in it...it's rained every day for more than a week.

Rain was tantalizingly close to us yesterday, moving towards us from the south all night and in the early morning hours. As it got close to us, we had dark clouds, thunder, etc. for hours, and got about two raindrops. The high pressure in Oklahoma pushed the rain south of us and it just slid right by us, so close we could almost touch it. It was frustrating. At our house we haven't had any rain in over a month and the cracks in the ground have expanded to over an inch wide in some areas. That 6" of rain that fell the first couple of days of June was great, but it is long gone and no rain has fallen here since.

Actually I am tired of the rain and we just got more. I have tomato plants that are terribly wilted from too much water. They are covered with fruit with no leaf cover to protect them because of the wilted vines. Luckily I have plants in other locations because I may lose these.

We had a few drops this morning and lots of thunder. Made it comfortable out til about 10:00.

Carol, It is so unfortunate that here in OK the rain always seems to come in only two amounts--too little or too much. I hope your plants pull through.

Amy, That is exactly our day yesterday. I'd rather have rain than not have it at this point, but even a few hours of cooler temperatures are a welcome break in the monotonous summer heat.
