Stem growing from flower cluster?

I'm pruning my tomatoes to a single stem, and I'm noticing that from many
of the flower clusters on the plants, there is a stem that is growing beyond the flowers. Is that normal? So rather than the flower cluster just having 7-8 tomatoes, there is a few tomatoes growing, then what appear to be a stem.
