I did my bathroom cabinets last year. (Both bathrooms) They still look great, but it was a good amount of work. Here's how: Scrubbed them super clean. Sanded everything well, to scuff up the clear coat so the primer would adhere well. Vacuumed everything to make sure I got all the sanding dust, then wiped it all down with a slightly damp rag and let it dry for a day. Primed with a good Zinsser primer (used BIN in one bathroom, 123 in the other, couldn't stand the BIN smell but its a great primer) Benjamin Moore Cabinet Coat paint, 2 coats. Lightly sanded between each coat of primer and paint. Used a good Purdy brush, don't use cheap brushes, you'll get brush marks if you do. The prep work was tedious and not fun but the end result was worth it. This year, I am gearing up to paint a bedroom set - headboard, dresser, chest, nightstands and mirror. A lot more area to do, but I'll take my time and get it done, using the same procedures I did for the cabinets.

A process like Iam702 spells out is great and probably the way to go if you are looking for the best. But the Rustoleum product actually worked well and held up.
