Lorraine, I am sorry for the broken plant, but the stem looks so young. It is harder to root it if it is too young. You could try by take it out of water and leave it out for few days before plant it to see if it works.

Don't put it in water. Let it dry out.

I have taken it out of water. How will I know when it's dried out? And then what do I do?

I think you guys are making it more complicated than it really is.
Here is your check list for cuttings:

-Cut off all foliage
-Allow cuttings to dry out for two weeks
-Apply rooting hormone to cut end
-Plant in a clear bottle (to see the roots)
-1/2" of pea gravel at the bottom
-The rest I fill with a good draining potting soil (I use Lukas Nursery mix) and add 25% Cactus mix and 25% perlite.
-Keep them in indirect sunlight, and out of the path of rain.
-Do not water, and keep them out of the rain until you see new growth.
-Spray the tips every day with a spray bottle.
-Check out the growth after a few weeks

I have not lost a cutting using this method! When in doubt, leave it alone and do not water."

When it finishes blooming you can give it a drastic hair cut. For more branching and maybe a second bloom. I would cut each branch down so there is still one or two leaf nodes on what is left (upside down smiley face), Put cinnamon or sulphur paste. On new cuts. Each cut should have the blade cleaned in Alcohol, Cut at a slight angle downward cut. Let rest for a few days in semi shade. Then back in sun
