A little surprise when repotting

You know I said I could feel a lump on the side of the pot...
I also cleared off some of the old compost around the crown with a misting bottle set to jet, and raised the soil line. Round the back I found the remains of an old stem,part rotted. The end of it looked liked a stick. Old flower stem?
