Oh. I missed the part about your not having a car. Sorry, Shamus won't work. This is not the best time to plant anything in Phoenix. Just sayin'.

I've had good luck with groworganic.com. They sell Dave Wilson Nursery trees. I bought 2 cherry trees from them last year and they're doing well so far (with some heat protection). They sent them in a huge box with good protection, so I felt it was a good deal.

I also buy a lot of plants from Wellspring Gardens (their ebay store has a better selection) but they are starter plants which basically means you need to nurture them for a few months to a year in better-than-normal conditions before you can plant them in the ground (most of the time, if it's a native plant or one that does really well here you can likely plant it right away). They are small plants so if you buy a fruit tree from them, don't expect fruit for at least 2-4 years (my bananas are fruiting now after 4 years).

This really isn't a good season to have fruit trees delivered to your house, because they could get really damaged by the heat of sitting on the truck all day.

I recommend working on your soil and yard layout, and digging the holes now. Then actually buy & plant in the fall.

Yeah I should have added, if you buy from a site like groworganic, you'll have to preorder and they don't ship them out until December. I think mine arrived on the 18th or so.
