Compost and grubs?

I started a compost bin in a plastic trash barrel. I put all the kitchen scraps (no meat) in it and layer it with wood chips. I was worried it wouldn't break down very quickly for lack of green matter (lawn clippings would introduce too many weed seeds). I was surprised to see that everything was breaking down very quickly. When I turned it with a garden fork, I could see the bin was full of grubs. I'm happy they're breaking everything down, but do I want to be spreading them around my plants? I mentioned it to a neighbor and they said the grubs could eat the roots of plants and attract the much dreaded armadillos that tear up our yards. Anyone have experience with this?
