The black appliances and black countertop is sucking up light. Depending on how much you want to spend, you could get appliances refinished in white or even a color such as a blue or aqua. Once that is done, you can assess if it changes things up enough. If not, then countertops would be next. Something lighter, and white would get update going. The cabinets look ok. Not sure about lighting? What is ceiling lighting? It also looks like walls in adjoining room are deep blue? That also absorbs light. Painting those walls lighter color would help. All these elements work together to lighten and brighten space.

Is there under counter lighting? That would help too.

Lavender but I want to change that also. I was definitely thinking of lighting under the cabinets what they have now is those mini florescent lights that are probably battery operated to tell you the truth. The kitchen looks out to the living room and outside deck.

I do not know what type of counters you have, but if they are granite the 4 inch black backsplash can often be removed. Then you could put a light tile up. I've seen many white kitchens with black countertops that looked bright, so the countertops should be OK. I do agree the appliances are quite dark. You could change out just the stove and microwave to start. I like white appliances, but stainless with black trim would tie in with your other black appliances till they need to be replaced. If possible consider replacing the microwave with a hood - that would also lighten up the space, and vents work better when they are not part of a microwave.

The lavender paint is not helping anything either. It is making the cabinet color very funky looking on my computer monitor.
