japanese achorn mutated.

Could anybody help me with my achorn (on the photos)? It had beautiful cut leaves, but all new growths seem to be of completely different kind. It looks like i had two different trees from one trunk. Have tou ever seen anytging like this and what could be the reason? Thank you for any advice. Aga

What is an 'Achorn'?? Unless I am missing something very obvious, the plant in question appears to be a Japanese maple, Acer palmatum, and the original variety one of the weeping dissectums. The vast majority of these are grafted on to a straight Acer palmatum rootstock, which will have very different appearing foliage. Often the rootstock will produce shoots, which tend to be very vigorous and which can easily outgrow the grafted scion (top portion). These need to be removed promptly as they appear as they can indeed "take over the plant"!!

Can you post a photo that shows where the two different appearing branches are originating on the plant? I would bet they are emerging below the graft from the rootstock.

It is reverting. Cut it off or it will take over the plant.

thank you for comment. But how can it 'revert' into completely different plant? It is not like it was grown from full-leaf species and then turned into this feather-like one, right? How does it work? I would appreciate your further help. Best Regards!

And the most important-how to 'force' the plant to grow the old type of leaves, if all new breanches growing are of the different type? This is my first Achorn, so all seems strange

Yeah, you may be right, gal. At first look it seemed the green growth was coming out higher, but now I see where the left side looks to have a branch coming out below the graft.

aolech- in addition to another photo you will also want to remove that stake.

You are right guys. I took one more look and obviously i have missed the fact that there is a connection from different roots. All strange looking leaves are starting below this connection.
Two branches visible here are the light green type. All above is dark green. Do you think that there is any chance to keep both types growing? Or the top part would just die?

It is a maple, indeed. I live in Germany, so sometimes the german names are the ones i use without realising it.

I did attempt a translation program but nothing came up :-)

There is no benefit in keeping those lower shoots with the larger leaves. As you can see, they will grow much faster and larger than the top portion and eventually will overwhelm the top growth to the point where it will stop growing and no longer be productive. And the top portion with the lacy foliage is what you purchased the little tree for and should be what you want to conserve.
