Question about numbered plants

Are numbered plants the same? For instance, let's say there's a new plant discovered and it's named NOLA 80282. When that plant pups, is it also NOLA 80282? And it's pups are the same, so that years later after many offsets are sold and sent around the world - any NOLA 80282 is from that originally discovered one?

Please educate this noob. ;-)

Some plants are named in honor of who discovered it and given a number until it could be found in past ligature discovering the real name. So many plants have been renamed and added confusion to the hobby. This way, everyone knows it may be an older name to cover it. Or so I think it is the reason. Maybe a better explanation will post.

So if I understand correctly, a number is more like a placeholder till the real name is found?

That is correct. Any momo can claim they discovered a new sans and call it whatever, but it takes years of research to qualify that it is actually new and not something already discovered. At least now we have dna matching to help solve those problems.

It's just a name I made up, Akkrm, and now everyone I know has incorporated it into their vocabulary, including my coworkers, to describe as Stush said, a moron. Lol. I should have used better verbiage. Sorry.
