I have not grown enough from both, but both Rinoa and Ko deal with the same source. If you take a look at many of the photo's of seed available (more so a few years ago) you will see the same plant (bloom) with a different name to it.

There is less of this now, because they do not work together anymore. Ko does more or most of his crossing on his own.

I feel it is good to inform them as you have Christine, because it will help keep the sellers honest 'sorta speak'. If they are not informed of germination percentages, then nothing would be done to remedy it (do not sell old seed). Rinoa is very good about keeping her business honest and will make good with problems.

We will buy from those sellers that first off we get, good germination and later one upon seeing blooms.

You are making such good progress with you plants and their blooms, Christine. I wish I had more room or able to grow outside all year long.

I was just reading around and thought can we cut the top of a 4mo seedling nd graft on a older plant for faster flowering? The wait is killing, lol

Some have been cutting them earlier. For quicker branching. Wait can kill me.

Yes Conny, I am in the tropics in Australia, where we hardly get any winter. The earliest one I have had bloom is 4 months old. On average they flower around 9 months old.

Another Mr Ko one opened today and this is what I got. First photo my flower second photo is mother plant from Mr Ko eBay 6. The flower is actually a pale lemon background. Very happy with this one.

Wow, Christine ... I can see that's a very young seedling. The flower overshadows it! What a precocious little guy.

How many early boomers like this have you experienced over the course of X years? Did they suffer any stress as a result? I cannot imagine my 6-month old seedlings blooming like that.

Latinlady, I have only been growing for 2 years but most of my seedlings have on average flowered between 6 and 12 months old, the youngest was only 3 1/2 months old and I have about 6 that are 20 months old and just started forming their first buds now. No stress on any plants. Most have grown very fast and been fantastic bloomers, some have been more slower but that's just the nature of each plant. Just like humans, they are individuals and don't grow exactly the same. But blooming early has had no negative impact on them. I have attached photos to show you a four month growth on one of my plants. This is one of Mr Kos that was germinated 26/02/15. First photo was taken late January this year and second photo taken late May.

Thanks Christine, That is what I wanted when I started this tread. It is hard for us to visualize what the seed will look like, When we add the pic from the seller to what our seed produced. Then we can compare the two. So all you post is a Great help for others

This is a great thread. Thank you so much for your input, Christine. Some great plants there. I have about 400 seed coming myself so I'm hopeful for a few good ones. KO's seed sowing link has photos of some of his plantings and if you countt the cells, then how many trays per table, then how many tables - I calculated more than 20,000 plants started in that single photo. That is a lot of work.

love looking at this thread, and seeing what 'might be' from my ko seeds. seems many of us like similar things. have several stashes of ko no. 11.

Dave, It could actually be a fact. Putting a young plant onto an older rootstock.

This is what they are doing with True Socotranums, as they have to be 8 - 10yrs. of age to bloom. They are grafting the top of a True Soco onto an Obesum rootstock, i.e. True Soco blooms sooner.

They may well show darker edging to the flowers on later, more maturing blooming. I've seen several people post photos where this happened on later blooms but not early on. Good luck with them. I rather like the second one especially though that third one is pretty too. /Especially/ if it develops the dark edge later.

My first Ko seedling is finally blooming. Even though, it looks totally different from what i expected it to be, I like it!

Unfortunately, it lost all of its very "meaty, gummy like" leaves...

Nice thread. Adding my first multi-petal bloom and in color other than pink, Rinoa's Sugar Rush ... merchant stock photo at the bottom. This plant was grown from seed by Alma <eeyore> and sent to me as a seedling. Thank you, Alma ... I love it! I hope you get the same bloom on yours.

Unfortunately, I haven't had a good run in terms of the Doksawai.

We'll call it Pepto Bismol. Not that the bloom is bad in and of itself. But it's awful when your expectation is a triple-petal purple/white. I seriously wonder whether anyone has gotten a purple Doksawai ... I think it's one of those fake, photoshopped flowers.

On the bright side, at least I'm seeing flowers this year! Next year can only be better. Looking forward to summer 2018.

Absolutely GORGEOUS! and not so exciting on the second one. Can' wait for my Sugar Rush to bloom!

So I donot have photos to share but can share what I got. I ordered mixed single yellow batch (100 seeds) from Rinoa... all turned shades from white to cream and a few yellows... happy with them all. Have 48

I also grew 100 mixed double yellow and golden crown from Rinoa and they gave excellent results.. Only 40 survived the rains... i have 12 intense yellow to cream doubles that bloom profusely.. the rest are all interesting shades of cream or single yellow

my take, always order a stable double colored seed that the vendor is selling since few years.... rather than new variety... results are the closest if not true and color variety is facinating. Just as fyi... this batch I didnot get any pink...lowest were single whites..equally welcome..

my violet or purple seeds one batch 15 seeds had different pink shades and a red with 2 doubles...out of the 9 that survived... not happy

Excellent feedback, Simolee, and everyone else. Purples are the hardest to get, I'm told, and may bloom pink or red the first few times before they show the purples. I don't have experience there myself to know if it's true yet or not but several people who have had purple seedlings have mentioned how very hit and miss they can be on displaying the purple due to several environmental factors. Keep posting your results and thank you for sharing them.

A tip I wanted to share... I lost quite a few seedlings when we had heavy rains due to root rot. For the few that had more than 4 leaves, I was able to cut the rotted root off and graft to other pink adenium stock... and the 2 yellow doubles that bloomed from them are my most fav... so do try to save each seed.... each are unique...

I wish I had tried it before... wouldnot have thrown away so many. And the seedlings take easily.. though a vgraft is best. another thing for rot, donot waste time cutting the root, drying and waiting, take a stem piece when fresh and if u can and graft away. I learnt this quite late, By then quite a few seedlings that were soft that I had pulled out to dry, the rot extended to the stems and I lost the seedling totally and the possible unique bloom with it.

I don't know how small a seedlings and how tender you are talking about, Shimolee, but if they have a little size to them you may also just cut the lower portion off. As another option to grafting, seal it with glue and pot it back up and they will often throw out new roots. Like this one here, only a few inches tall. I cut off the roots and sealed the cut with glue to start centipede roots and within about a month later, new roots were started.

Seedling glued to a disk to spread out new roots and seal the cut, then planted. A bit over a month later, new roots! Though if your seedling is still tiny and tender, it could be trickier.

Yes, I think the overall balance of the bloom will be better as the plant matures. It does have tiny hints of pink and if that intensifies just a little <no stripes needed>, it would be a very beautiful flower. To me, it's fine as is and is a great addition for its multi petals.

On another note, I woke up to three new buds this morning ... Can't wait to see what I get! Fingers / toes / legs / eyes crossed!!

Well, this is interesting. The second KO_57 1st bloom just opened fully and it's very different from the first bloom, which opened last week. That one was yellow with hints of pink ... This one is white with a yellow throat and more pink. Very interesting indeed. The bloom is a little sloppy because the plant is young.

The top is the current bloom, the bottom is the first bloom from last week.

This one can"t make up its mind. Now we're back to yellow on the 3rd bloom ... Note the bud with pink rim in the background:

Hey, Alma ... Sorry to hear about your Sugar Rush. I recommend you prune in Spring and try to root some cuttings. I will do the same in mid-March, considering I only have the one plant. I don't like grafted plants and haven't tried my hand at it yet, but this one certainly is a candidate. The bloom is stunning.

I planted 15 Flame of Love last March and sold 10 seedlings in August. I believe I still have 4 or 5 ... Can share. Will email you.
