Long and narrow kitchen / dining layout

After toying with many layouts in a previous thread I'm trying something a little different.

(Here's the history if your interested)

I'm updating my kitchen and the current layout is pretty terrible. (it's a 7'x9' U-kitchen) Here's a diagram of the space currently:

I plan to take down the non-load bearing wall between the kitchen and the dining to open the two spaces up. I've tried swapping the dining and kitchen, but am not totally pleased with the results.

Hoping to get some feedback on this layout.

Thank you!

I like that idea, chap! Added bonus is an improved view from the front door since the sink would move.

eta: I misread your drawing. I'd look at moving the sink to the peninsula with the dishwasher on the left.

chap, can you give your drawing a white background?

Sorry about the challenging diagram! Here's the IKEA planner version:

The sit at counter would extend into the bay area all the way to the wall, beneath the window. I swapped the dishwasher and sink as benjesbride recommended.

Here's what the wall next to the fridge looks like:

The sink and DW tucked into the angle means that you can't have the DW open while you're standing at the sink, and you'll potentially be prepping over the DW (it can be done, but isn't ideal). Putting the DW to the left of the sink makes it easier to use - but when it's open, it will block the aisle. Perhaps swapping the DW and trash would help - but then the end cabinet gets narrower and potentially less useful. With no upper cabinets by the range, where will you keep spices and cooking oils? The drawers next to the range will be taken up with cooking utensils, potholders, pots and pans. While no uppers opens up the space, I don't know if you have enough storage to make it work. It's important to work out what will be stored where as you go along.

Is it feasible to redirect the hallway to free up space for a recessed fridge at the end of the present hall? Like so (recessed fridge represented in orange)...

Benjesbride, unfortunately the hallway can not be redirected. The stairs continue past where I have them in the layout. Also, the landing is two steps down (16", to accommodate for the sloped ceiling)

AnnKH, thanks for the feedback. I swapped the sink placement in a hurry and didn't consider the opening angle. I've found that I prefer the upper cabinets to the left of the stove for oils and spices. I can reach it without stepping away from the stove. Also, I didn't put it in the diagram, but I was planing to do some kind of shelving on either side of the range. I'll have to think about the sink/dishwasher/dishes arrangement some more. That's always the part that I can't get how I like with this space...

So, I've had a week to mull over the feedback above, and made some tweaks to the layout. I extended the run with the sink so I could fit the dishwasher in and have some clearance on either side of it. In order to have enough room to sit comfortably, I had to swap out the 24" deep cabinets for 15" (I calculated the sq/in lost was gained in in the extra cabinet next to the dishwasher.) I also shortened the peninsula a bit so I could fit 24" deep cabinets on run next to the fridge. There are uppers over the range area, as AnnKH recommended.

Does this look a bit more workable?

Thanks again for all the feedback!

That angled peninsula would drive me crazy. If find it very awkward and a poor use of space.
